The past 25 years have given us so many cherished moments, many of which cannot be expressed through mere words alone....so, we thought we would allow you to enjoy a few frames of the journey through pictures.

Enjoy the view

"THE VISION"

When the vision of Dorolyn was planted in the heart of Dr. Bounds, the visual form resembled the picture above.  The picture was of an array of mountains, and in these mountains were  faces, along with signs and symbols of music.  Dr. Bounds' request to God was.......

"Give me this mountain"

Mrs. Juanita  Calermee

One of Dorolyn's first instructors from our inception in 1982, and long-time devoted friend and mentor of Dr. Bounds.  Mrs. Calermee was a piano and vocal coach who was gifted, warm hearted and quite demanding...all of which enabled her to create a legacy that will be remembered for generations.

Dennis  Smith  (piano)....One of Dorolyn's piano/organ instructors from the early years.  With Dennis' incredible

"ear" for music he was able to replecate almost any style of music, almost any song, after listening to the song for only a few minutes...it was awesome.

His love for music enabled him to pass along the joy of music to his students with ease.  He was, and still is beloved to us and one of the Chicago areas

more gifted Gospel musicians.

Harold Stewart  (Lead guitar)...

our first guitar instructor.  Awesome spirit, anointed fingers and an obedient guitar named "angel" that follows every command that he gives it

made for some extraordinary lessons and any other kind of experience that an audience was priveleged to listen to.

Tony Phoenix  (Bass guitar)...

Not an instructor, but certainly a long-time friend and great musician who would join us in our recitals, concerts and other events accross the city.  We love him dearly.

Audra  Wilson...Instructor of classical piano and saxophone.  Along with being a gifted performing artist, she is a highly respected attorney as well.  Audra has been with the Academy for 8 years, and currently serves on the Board of Directors.

Dr. Bounds recieving her Honorary Doctorate Degree

Presented by Dr. M.K. Nelson, President of McKinley Theological Seminary in Jackson, MS.  Dr. Nelson flew  to Chicago to personally give Dr. Bounds this honor.

                                      1992

"The Mighty Men of Dorolyn"  was an event we hosted in honor of  strong, giving, nurturing men who give of themselves, go out of their way to help others, and pride themselves for knowing that these things are elements that make you a strong man.  These are just a few of the men who were honored on that evening.

Martha Brock ...(Photographer extraordinaire)

our favorite photographer and long-time friend.  Practically every photograph on this website is courtesy of Martha Brock Photography.  The pictures seen in the background of this shot were also captured by Martha.  In fact, on the West wall of the auditorium of Dorolyn, there is a "Wall of Fame" with hundreds of photos--most of which were captured by Martha Brock......it's amazing the art form this woman can create with a camera.  We love you Martha !!!

The Academy has been host to many National and Local recording artists such as Walter Hawkins, Vickie Winans, Hezekiah Walker, LaShun Pace-Rhodes and Dan Willis...just to name a few.
